Georgian Style Solid Mahogany or Walnut Secretaire Chest on Chest – High Quality Reproduction

This is a made-to-order reproduction inspired by an original Georgian secretaire chest on chest (Some photos show original oak finish for illustration purposes ). It has not yet been made. Each piece is crafted to closely match the design and appearance shown, though as a handmade solid mahogany item there may be minor natural variations in grain, colour and finish. Please see our other mahogany furniture to give an idea of colour and shade of waxed wood. The shade can be of your choice.

This handsome solid mahogany secretaire chest on chest is a carefully crafted reproduction of a classic late Georgian English design. It combines the elegant proportions and practical features of the original period pieces with the reliability and consistency of modern high-quality construction.

The upper section is topped with a moulded cornice and framed by fluted quarter columns. It contains three smaller drawers across the top, two full-width drawers beneath, and a full-width secretaire fall that appears as another drawer when closed. The fall opens smoothly on brass stays to create a generous writing surface, supported by shaped brackets on either side. Inside you will find six pigeonholes, six small drawers with brass knobs, a central locking cupboard, two vertical reeded secret drawers (released from inside the side pigeonholes), and a further concealed drawer hidden within the cupboard itself — a clever and practical detail for storing important papers or valuables.

The lower section offers three deep full-width drawers, also wood-lined and fitted with hand-cut dovetails. All main drawers run smoothly, close flush, and are fitted with working locks. The piece stands on classic moulded bracket feet and retains a clean, balanced silhouette with a moulded waist rail between the two sections.

Finished in a rich, warm mahogany tone with a smooth polished surface, the chest has the presence of a fine period piece while offering the practical advantages of new furniture: consistent colour, solid construction, and no concerns about structural wear. It dismantles cleanly into two sections, making delivery and installation much easier than a one-piece piece of this size.

Ideal for a bedroom, landing, study or hallway, it provides substantial clothes storage while also serving as a compact home workspace.

This lovely chest on chest can be made with mahogany with a wax finish or with midi wood with a beautiful walnut veneer.
